If you follow me on any of my social media platforms you know I have been promoting heavy for my organization's, Sierra Leone Youth Association, 2nd annual African fashion that took place May 12, 2017. I'm so proud to let you know, we pulled off another absolutely amazing show! I'm especially proud because this year I convinced the group to take a chance on me to highlight African Hair and Body Paint. So yes, I saw this as an opportunity to SOFT launch a sub-platform to Luvonpurpose I started called, Femafric (will give you more details about that in my next blog post).
To say the least, ya girl came through wit it!!!!!!!!
Taking on this task was scary. I have been braiding hair for about 14 years at this point. But in all those years of braiding, its only been in the comfort of my home and only doing styles that my clients request. So to take it to the next level by putting together a scene in an African fashion show was like learning how to swim in uncharted waters, Talk about nerve wracking endeavor! From coming up with the scene concept, hairstyles, outfits, recruiting models and dancers, to barely managing to keep my day job, still taking clients and all of the other stuff I find myself involved in, this wasn't easy!!! It wasn't easy mostly because of the hard lessons I had to learn about my self.....sheeesh!! I broke down a couple times, almost gave up on myself, snapped on a few people and had many inebriated nights. But I'm grateful that I held on. No matter how tough it was putting together this scene, there was something in me that pulled me to keep going and I'm so glad that I did. Because of this success(and of course the audience's reception hehehe), it awaken this excitement in me about the capabilities that I didn't know I had.
Overall, I'm learning more and more everyday to go towards what pulls me instead of what I am pushed to do. It is in that pull that I am discovering where my passion lies. I may not know my passion to its entirety but I am very confident that I am on the right track.
Here are some pictures and videos to give you an idea about the show.
